Ever since I bought my very first men’s designer watches in Malaysia, the Seiko SKX009, I was sure that this is not going to be my last watch. I fell in love with collecting watches that I am now the proud owner of more than 30 watches.
Now, some might think that I am crazy in that I might not even be able to wear all of them, but truth be told that all of the watches that I have in my possession have been worn at least 5 times.
You see, there is always the perfect watch for certain occasions and I always mix and match my style depending on the event I am going to attend.
Even if you are not a watch collector right now, I am pretty sure that that will change once you get your first luxury watch piece.
Today, I am writing an article for people who want to venture into creating their own watch collection and find out some tips that may come in handy in their odyssey.
You Can Never Go Wrong with a Reputable Brand
Let’s face it, there are plenty of different watches out there on the market. There are emerging brands but there are also ones that have already established their footing in the industry.
If you are going to buy your first set of watch collection pieces, it is important that you settle with ones from reputable companies first.
I can highly recommend that you look at watches from companies such as Rolex, Breitling, Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Richard Mille, just to name a few.
Any of the watch models here are always going to be worth your money, especially if you are buying from Rolex or Patek Philippe.
For instance, the Rolex Submariner is an iconic diving watch that has been popularized by pop culture. The reason why it is great is because you can use it for diving but its default configuration also makes it an ideal watch for formal events as well.
Richard Mille watches, on the other hand, are quite amazing because you can buy one of their highly-coveted skeleton watches where you can marvel at the intricacies of watchmaking.
Again, going for the more established companies is always your best bet if you are still starting out.
Ready Your Wallet
It is important for you to remember that luxury watches are not cheap. You could be spending more than $10,000 and that is just for an entry-level luxury watch!
But, that’s what makes it more appealing to collect since luxury watches are meant to tell the people around you that you are experiencing quite good financial status.
Buy the Ones that You Like
A lot of people think that by collecting watches, your only intention of acquiring certain timepieces is just to make a profit given after a couple of years when their value appreciates. However, that is not the main intention.
I think I and other watch collectors can agree that the reason why we want to create a watch collection is so that we can marvel at our achievements. Again, luxury watches are a symbol of your success.
Aside from that, we just want to get watches that we really love wearing. As previously mentioned, all of my 30+ watches have been worn at least 5 times. So if anything, buy the watches that you truly love wearing first and foremost.
